Greetings from the Brook Haven Board of Directors! At our May 6th annual meeting your board of directors expanded to now include Dave Amos (President), Jeff Garnett (V. President), Eugene Lord, Dubbie Acuna and Tuan Vo. We have chosen to try to reinvigorate the community by reaching out to you in several ways – this newsletter being one. We would like to announce our first quarterly open community meeting on July 15 at 7pm in the Parkside Community Club House on 46074 Trefoil Lane (next to swimming pool) to:
• Talk with the Sheriff about re-instating the Neighborhood Watch and parking issues
• Review our contract status and plans
• Discuss recent violation notices
• Discussion of storm water issue with neighboring development
• 10th Anniversary Celebration Plans – May 2016 Community Picnic and Yard Open House
• Form committees to address “Community Appearance”, “Parking and Signs”, and the neighborhood watch Reminders!!
• Don’t park on the “inside” of the street (Oakgrove and Earle Wallace)
• Trash – Lawn Refuse Monday, Trash/Recycling Tuesday, Trash Friday – call Trash Away for special pick-ups or replacement trash cans at 703-339-4560
• Lamp post lights must work – strongly encourage long-lasting LED lights
Suggestions: Paint your lamp pole with Rustoleum Satin Black Spray Paint with Primer – it goes on easy, looks good and holds up nicely. (You can get everything we suggest at Home Depot or Lowes). Pick a day with no wind, wipe the pole down well, cover your grass and light with cardboard or paper, move cars way out of the way, and apply several light coats for best results. If your lawn has mostly weeds and you don’t want to pay for a service: start spraying the lawn with Weed-B-Gone every two weeks (hose end sprayer with concentrate or single use bottle) starting now. In mid-August the lawn should be aerated, weeds cleaned up, and compost or topsoil spread over the bare spots before applying lawn seed – plan on being done with this all no later than the last week in August. If it doesn’t rain, you’ll have to water the lawn every day for about 2 weeks – until the grass seed is sprouting. Then compliment rain with watering and enjoy your new grass. Doing this (and proper weed control and fertilizer) for two years will rescue your lawn!! If you are using a lawn service, please ensure they are following a reasonable weed control, fertilizing, and reseeding program. And a huge thank you to those who do already!!
